Rescue

Many of our large scale incidents often involve many emergency agencies.
The Fire District operates a technical rescue team that is trained to respond to more advanced and difficult rescue incidents within Boone County. These incidents may involve automobile rescue, cliff rescue, cave rescue, high-angle rescue, ice rescue, trench rescue, swift water rescue or confined space rescue.

All Fire District engine companies are equipped with basic rescue equipment and all Fire District personnel are trained in the utilization of this equipment. The Fire District also operates two heavy rescue squads that are immediately dispatched to rescue incidents. These two units are very well equipped and the personnel involved in the technical rescue team spend countless hours in training and preparation for these highly demanding events.

In 1995, the technical rescue team also initiated an evolution that would ultimately develop into one of only 28 Federal Emergency Management Agency Urban Search and Rescue Task Forces in the country. The same personnel used for federal deployment to earthquakes, bombings and hurricanes are used on a routine basis here in Boone County to respond to rescue events. Please refer to the Missouri Task Force 1 page for additional information on the FEMA Task Force.

Firefighters often find themselves in unusual positions.
