Station 2 “Rocheport”

Boone County Fire Protection District Station 2, serving the Rocheport community is located downtown on Central St. in Rocheport. Station 2 has a long history of dedicated volunteers dating back to the early 1970’s. Station 2 was established as the district’s second station and though it has seen many upgrades, it stands today as the oldest “original” station. A 1971 International Towers would become the first piece of fire apparatus to respond out of Station 2. The second apparatus was an army surplus Jeep that was built by members of the fire district by parting out multiple Jeeps to create a dependable vehicle for responses.

Boone County Fire Station 2 has been a staple in the Rocheport community from the very beginning. Many tradesmen in the community, along with the volunteer firefighters, erected the original 40’x60’ metal building. The concrete work was completed by a close friend and neighbor to the station. With the passing of the 1980 bond issue, the station was expanded and while doing so it was given a historical “downtown Rocheport” look. The original metal building still stands as the center of the station.

Over the years many events in Rocheport have been held at the fire station. If it wasn’t a BBQ or chili supper then you would often find many community members meeting at the station to discuss community involved events. In 1993, Station 2 served as the main command post for the Boone County Fire District’s involvement in the Great Flood of 1993. Volunteers from Station 2, and throughout the community, protected multiple structures in Rocheport and surrounding areas with sandbags. The volunteers worked for about 45 days during the flood. At the peak of the flood, firefighters with the Boone County Fire District were informed by MODOT that I-70 was the last east-west interstate in the Midwest that remained open. Volunteer firefighters spent hours every day pumping water from the median and south side, as traffic continued moving, to keep the eastbound lanes of I-70 from being flooded and closed.

Station 2, like all the other stations in the fire district, has a strong commitment from its volunteers. The two longest lasting members, Ralph and Monty are known well by the Rocheport community and both have more than 40 years invested in being a volunteer. The station has four resident rooms and currently houses Engine 201, a 2015 fire engine, Truck 206, a 1996 Chevrolet 1 ton that responds to medical emergencies and grass fires and Boat 207, a 2012 24ft CR Cub River Boat that provides rescue capabilities for stranded or lost boaters on and along the Missouri River

There were 156 responses by dedicated volunteers out of Station 2 in 2020.
